We apologize for the confusion in the previous version of the manuscript and we really appreciate your efforts for reviewing it. We are now re-submitting the correct manuscript. A point-by-point description of the changes follows (in black small letters your comments, in red capital letters our reply): 1. This study devoted to research on the relationship between active and passive sampling for bioaerosol in operating theaters. The results obtained from this study may clarify the relationship between active and passive sampling for bioaerosol. However, less constructive conclusions can be made since their results are very limited. Some related results have already been published as reference 18 to 22; however, there is no consistent conclusion among these studies. I suggest the authors to make more discussions, why readers have to believe there is a significant correlation between active and passive sampling results since there are already some opposite findings have been published? What's the same or different among their findings and previous reports? In methods, some descriptions are too rough, the readers may get confused. Detailed comments and questions are given page by page in the section that follows. 3 2. Background: Since the major focus is related to active and passive sampling, some issues have to be addressed in this paragraph. What's the possible reason could explain the inconsistent findings from previous studies? What kind of factor may affect the active and passive sampling …

Air sampling procedures to evaluate microbial contamination: a comparison between active and passive methods in operating theatres
BACKGROUND Since air can play a central role as a reservoir for microorganisms, in controlled environments such as operating theatres regular microbial monitoring is useful to measure air quality and identify critical situations. The aim of this study is to assess microbial contamination levels in operating theatres using both an active and a passive sampling method and then to assess if there ...
متن کاملCan Particulate Air Sampling Predict Microbial Load in Operating Theatres for Arthroplasty?
Several studies have proposed that the microbiological quality of the air in operating theatres be indirectly evaluated by means of particle counting, a technique derived from industrial clean-room technology standards, using airborne particle concentration as an index of microbial contamination. However, the relationship between particle counting and microbiological sampling has rarely been ev...
متن کاملOperating theatre ventilation systems and microbial air contamination in total joint replacement surgery: results of the GISIO-ISChIA study.
BACKGROUND Recent studies have shown a higher rate of surgical site infections in hip prosthesis implantation using unidirectional airflow ventilation compared with turbulent ventilation. However, these studies did not measure the air microbial quality of operating theatres (OTs), and assumed it to be compliant with the recommended standards for this ventilation technique. AIM To evaluate air...
متن کاملMicrobial air monitoring as a useful tool when commissioning bone marrow transplant units.
To the Editor—Bone marrow transplant patients are highly susceptible to airborne infections, which are mainly due to opportunistic microorganisms." Guidelines for the proper design of hospital rooms and heating, ventilation, and airconditioning (HVAC) systems have been published. Their aim is to control the concentration of airborne particles and their deposition onto surfaces, minimizing their...
متن کاملMicrobial Profile of Air Contamination in Hospital Wards
Background and Aims:Nosocomial infections cause considerable morbidity and mortality and pose high financial burden on healthcare systems. Although surface contact, surgical incisions, wounds and catheters are responsible for a high percentage of nosocomial infections, bacterial and fungal air contaminations in hospitals have an important role in development of hospital infections. The p...
